    Mr. Appelbaum - Band & Music Technology

    Michael Appelbaum teaches Band and Music Technology at GSMST. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music with an emphasis in Music Technology and Trumpet Performance from Georgia State University.  He has also completed the music education certification program at Georgia State University. As an educator, Mr. Appelbaum has taught extensively in the primary and middle grades. He has led choral and instrumental ensembles in numerous public performances including the groundbreaking of the Children’s Museum of Atlanta and two opportunities to perform for Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue. Mr. Appelbaum regularly teaches sessions for Atlanta Montessori Teacher Education, educating teachers on music and movement in the classroom.  Mr. Appelbaum completed his student teaching at Brookwood High School where he worked with the Music Technology program, Jazz Band, and Jazz Combo.

    While attending Georgia State University Mr. Appelbaum studied trumpet with Mark Hughes, computer sound design with Robert Scott Thompson and performed with the wind ensemble, brass ensemble, jazz band, jazz combo, choral ensemble as well as various other chamber groups including Brass Director, Don Strand’s brass quintet.  During his time at Georgia State, Mr. Appelbaum interned with the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, Dallas Austin’s recording studio, D.A.R.P., and the Rialto Center for the Performing Arts.   Mr. Appelbaum has worked as a live audio and recording engineer for Atlanta based Rubicon Studios. His technical experience has also seen him working in satellite television, performing network operations for Crawford Communications.

    Mr. Appelbaum remains active as a professional musician. He performs regularly around Atlanta and the southeast with groups ranging in styles from jazz to classical to popular.  He has lent his talents as a musician, arranger and producer to many recorded projects.  His own band has independently released two CD’s of original music.  Mr. Appelbaum is a member of the Music Educators National Conference and Georgia Music Educators.
